I love painting Still Life compositions, especially scholar objects – inkstone, brushpots, spirit rocks etc.

“Warmed with the lingering scent of tea I paint for my own pleasure.”

The inscription on the teapot says “if the song is too highbrow, no-one will sing along”.  The excellent Chinese Sayings Podcast explains the meaning.

This painting shows the inkstone that belonged to my first painting teacher, Marie Sherville, with my poem in clerical script: ancient inkstone grinding ink, I dream I am still painting; green bronze reflecting the moon, I am awake and still thinking.
