Ren Bonian rocks!

I had a great weekend at Missenden Abbey with William Cai teaching us to paint in the style of Ren Bonian, Qing dynasty master.  I didn’t realise that he combined western watercolour methods into his traditional-seeming work.  All the paintings were done on sized xuan.

After we’d painted Ren’s cranes, I was inspired to try a freebrush version on semi-sized  “cotton xuan” – a full sheet!
